The initiative group of the society intends to introduce a new way of connecting Vilnius to Valakampiai and the Park of Verkiai. A ferry route that is expected to be powered by water is planned to be open at the northern part of the city. Pedestrians and cyclists could use it for free.
The citizens of Vilnius could travel through Neris by ferry for free
One of the initiators Paul Zavis said that the Cultural Council is helping to realize this old idea by dedicating sum of 17,000 euro. In turn, the administration of Verkiai Regional Park helped to build marina, but there were unexpected obstacles – heavy rains hit to the capital of the country and the marina was washed away.
"We are reconstructing the marina at the moment, but in mid-August, the project should be started. So far, we have only a utopian business plan that might also be interesting for representatives of foreign city authorities. The ferry is much cheaper than the construction of a bridge, so we should also be exciting for the foreign market. We have already invested all the money we had received through support ", - said P. Zaviša.
P. Zaviša, the developer of recreational projects, considers that the name of a well-known brand should be given to the ferry - it would help to generate income that will be needed for ferry boatmen and other necessities.
The initiator still believes that, firstly, the project makers will work for themselves, since this work requires a capercaillie certificate: "There are no people who have this kind of certificate in our country," said Zaviša.
According to him, this novelty is necessary for the city, because there is no bridge and the people should drive one side far enough. The prototype of the ferry U-PER in the capital was tested three years ago.
